Buyers of recycled metals, batteries and EV hardware cannot verify what they are actually buying.

Origin is a claim, not a fact.

Provenance and purity arrive as a PDF assay and a supplier's word. Neither survives a serious audit.

QR codes are trivially copied.

A printed code can be photographed and reprinted onto anything. A copied code verifies exactly as well as the original — which means it verifies nothing.

The paperwork is scattered.

Custody history sits across emails, spreadsheets and warehouse systems, with no single record anyone downstream can inspect.

The deadlines are already set.

February 2027 is not far away, and compliance evidence has to be collected before that date, not reconstructed after it.

What VeriV is

VeriV is a protocol and framework for chain of custody, traceability, trust and accountability. It combines the digital footprint — cryptographically signed records — with the physical asset itself, so the object in front of you and the evidence behind it are one verifiable thing, not two separate claims.

Applied to industrial materials — vanadium, molybdenum, cobalt, nickel, tungsten and titanium — that means every batch carries a digital product passport anchored to a secure NFC tag. Tap it with any modern smartphone and the passport opens: where the material originated, what the assays say, who handled it and who signed for it, and whether every record still holds up cryptographically. Mine to grid and back again.

One tap. No app to install. The person checking does not need an account, and does not need to take your word for anything.

How trust is established

Three independent layers have to agree before a batch verifies.

A chip that cannot be photocopied

Every tag is built on the NXP NTAG 424 DNA, a secure chip with an AES-128 cryptographic engine on board. Each tap produces a fresh, one-time code that is useless the moment it is used. Copy the tag's printed surface and you copy nothing that verifies.

Records signed to an international standard

Every assay, custody handover and shipment record is signed using ECDSA-P256 digital signatures under ISO/IEC 20248:2022. Alter a single character and the signature stops matching. The signature can be checked independently — by your customer, your auditor, or a regulator.

Human-signed gates, end to end

The pipeline runs from batch initiation through source assay, processing, purity certification, logistics and end-of-life recovery. Every stage is signed off by a named person who is accountable for it. AI is used to assist analysis — flagging variances for review — and never signs anything. Humans sign.

Verification runs serverless on AWS against an append-only ledger: records are added, never overwritten. Information security is managed against ISO 27001 as a roadmap commitment.

Standards pedigree

VeriV is built on published standards, with the people who wrote them.

  • The platform was built from co-research and testing with a co-author of ISO/IEC 20248, ongoing since 2017, and its records are conformant with the standard and independently reviewed.
  • Founder Nathawat (Nix) Pokasamrith sits on the Standards Australia IT-034 panel.
  • The University of Queensland is VeriV's academic research partner.
  • The technology is at TRL 6–7 — demonstrated in a relevant operating environment, with a live platform running today and pilot conversations under way with Thai petrochemical and refining majors.
